Baron Samedi
The Loa of the dead…if Baron has not dug one's grave, one is not close to facing death.

Baron Samedi's Vévé

Residing in cemeteries, Baron Samedi is the voice of the forgotten dead. He is the ultimate suave and sophisticated spirit of death, usually depicted with a black top hat, black tuxedo and dark glasses - with one lens popped out so one eye sees into the underworld, and the other eye sees our physical world. He has knowledge of all who become dead. Like his wife Maman Brigitte, he has a white skull-like face and cotton plugs in each orifice of the face, as if to resemble a corpse dressed and prepared for burial. Baron Samedi is overly sexual and obscene; and honest to the point it becomes offensive.
What Baron Samedi Can Do For You:
In life, we will all experience difficulties and grief; you can call on Baron Samedi to help you find humor and lightheartedness during hard times. He thrives on chaos, and can help you cope with unexpected change or chaos in your own life. Baron Samedi is also known for his sexuality and can help you enhance your sexual energy and passion.

Offerings:
Baron Samedi loves food and drinks that are too spicy for the living to consume. One of his favorite things is rum infused with hot peppers. For food, you can gift him the hottest hot sauce you can find or sprinkle spices like cayenne pepper on top of food for him. Baron would also gladly accept cigarettes, cigars and money.
Decorate Your Altar:
Draw out Baron Samedi’s vévé (symbol) and place it on top of his altar or hang above it. Because Baron is a sexual loa, he is frequently represented by phallic symbols; if you prefer a less-crude option he can also be represented with a statue or image of St. Expedite. He would be happy with most decorations found during time of The Day Of The Dead holiday, like sugar skulls and skeleton statues. Baron’s offerings can be placed on top of a purple or black scarf on his altar. If you have access to a cemetery, you can also add graveyard dirt to the altar.
