Gran Bwa's Vévé

LouisandLaveau_Voodoo_Granbwa_Veve

Through Gran Bwa’s forest is where the newly dead travel. The trees in his forest are under water, reflecting the forest of the topside world - like the saying “as above, so below". Reminiscent of the Tree of Life, Gran Bwa's roots extend into the earth...his branches and leaves reach up through the air into the light of the sun; and the sap connects it all like blood. Everywhere in his forest are tiny gemlike bugs that contain the souls of the dead, reflecting spiritual presence within the magic forest. Go out into the forest by yourself if you want to speak with Gran Bwa.

What Gran Bwa Can Do For You:
Gran Bwa will help you connect with your ancestral roots and gain a better understanding of who you are. Gran Bwa is also a very loving Loa full of advice; he gives the gift of clairvoyance and prophecy and can be petitioned for healing, prosperity, and general advice. He is the protector of all wild animals, and watches over people who travel through the woods. Because Gran Bwa is the Loa of forests, he can also help you in mastering herbal medicine. When you pick herbs, leave him an offering as a thank you.

Offerings:
Some of Gran Bwa's favorite things include sweet potatoes, yams, green bananas, rum, whiskey, coffee, wild berries, acorns, and any type of food from the woods. He also likes flowers and branches as gifts. If you have access to the woods, leave these offerings at the base of a large tree or place them on top of Gran Bwa’s altar.

Decorate Your Altar:
If you wish to create a shrine to him, draw out Gran Bwa’s vévé (symbol) and place it on top of his altar or hang above it. Gran Bwa can be represented by an image or statue of St. Sebastian or St. Christopher. You can use red and green items and scarves as decorations. Pinecones, berries and other items found in the forest are also appropriate for Gran Bwa’s altar.
