Maman Brigitte's Vévé

LouisandLaveau_Voodoo_Mamanbrigitte_Veve

The Mother of Death, Maman Brigitte, looks like a corpse - her mouth, eyes, ears, and nose are stuffed with cotton. Her jaw is pulled shut with cloth, and her shoulders are wrapped in the cloth of death. As death is the final judge, Manman Brigitte is considered to be the wise supreme judge and lawyer of the underworld. She sits in judgment of us because death is the final judgment of our time on earth. In death we may be luckier than in life, for in death Manman Brigitte is wise and powerful to protect us. This is not always the case in life. She is meditative, silent, internal. When she speaks she is very crude and uses profanity.

What Maman Brigitte Can Do For You:
Maman Brigitte is invoked to cure those who are near death as a result of magic. She can help bring you great wealth and make you more desirable. Call on Maman Brigitte to ensure a just judge and a favorable outcome to a court case. She can protect gravestones of loved ones if you mark them with a cross. You can also speak to Brigitte for correct understanding of death and regeneration and what you can expect in the afterlife.

Offerings:
Maman Brigitte’s favorite drink is rum laced with hot peppers, and for food she would appreciate chocolate, cornmeal, peanuts, yams, and potatoes. Give her flowers, preferably lavender or jasmine. She’ll also gladly accept money.

Decorate Your Altar:
Decorate Brigitte’s altar with a pile of stones from a cemetery and flowers reminiscent of what you’d find left on top of a gravestone. Place these items along with her offerings on a black or purple scarf. Draw out Maman Brigitte’s vévé (symbol) and place it on top of her altar or hang above it. To represent Brigitte you can use a cross.
